Poster proposal

These posters were designed as a proposal for the 30th Recent Spanish Cinema from Spain anniversary film series held in Los Angeles, an annual event organized by EGEDA US to showcase contemporary Spanish cinema. Each idea explored a different visual narrative to connect Spanish culture with Hollywood cinema.

The first design (top left) centers on a flamenco dancer seated alone in the front row of a grand, old-style cinema )such as the Egyptian Theatre), wearing 3D glasses and casually eating popcorn. She’s turned slightly backward as if inviting the viewer into the scene. The atmosphere evokes a blend of tradition and modernity, placing a deeply Spanish cultural icon in a playful, unexpected context.

The second proposal (top right) presented a stylized popcorn bucket, where the vertical red-and-yellow stripes echoed both the Spanish flag and film strips, with popcorn flying out to create a sense of motion. The typography was placed to the right for balance and clarity.

In the third design, a flamenco dancer’s flowing dress morphed into a film strip, placed on the left side of the composition. In the background, the Hollywood Hills, palm trees, and the iconic sign established the LA context. Two color variations were developed for this version—one with a vintage tone (top left), and another with a more modern and vibrant palette (top right).

Additional explorations

Alongside the final proposals, I developed several other visual concepts during the early sketching phase. These initial explorations allowed me to experiment with tone, symbolism, and visual metaphors, helping define the direction of the final pieces. Although these ideas were eventually set aside, they offered valuable insight into how to balance cultural identity, cinematic language, and graphic clarity within the context of the event.
